The city of Lisburn's most famous benefactor, sir Richard Wallace, gifted the people with 5 such drinking fountains back in 1872. He was an avid art collector also and lived for a time in Paris.
He commissioned Charles Lebourg to fashion these ornate fountains at his foundry in Val d'Osne.
Today they are purely for decorative purposes and only two remain as the others were used in WWII for armaments.
