Monday Murals

These two murals are facing eachother in Church Street, Belfast. They are part of last September's 'Hit The North' culture festival and attracted more than 40 muralists

The mural above is refers to the take away choice of ordering a half chip (fries, to everyone else!) half rice with a curry or ordering a very unique Northern Irish fish and chip shop specialty called a pastie which is like a burger shape and size but made from minced pork, mashed potato and onion, battered and deep fried and served as a pastie supper with chips (fries) or in a bap which is a burger bun.

The one below is on the side of an electrical substation and is by Emic.

  4. This artist is talented! I did manage to figure out the first one was a food order, so I am glad to know what the dishes are. They pastie sounds wonderful.

  7. I'd try the pastie! I know there's an English pasty, but that sounds different.

I like the blue of that second mural.

  11. Great murals - I'd go for the curry with half&half (but I'd never have guessed what either was without your explanation).

  15. Glad you explained the meaning, I'd never heard of a pastie bap. I would prefer curry and rice, chips sound strange with curry. Nice murals Christine.

  16. That's a very retro phone in the first mural. A Swiss friend who speaks excellent English still gets confused about names for foods. If she came to N Ireland she'd have to learn a lot more!

  17. Cool murals, I like the 'old' phone as opposed to a cell phone!
