Dundrum Castle

Dundrum Castle is situated in County Down near the Mourne Mountains.  It was built by Sir John de Courcy in the 13th Century as part of his invasion of Ulster, in order to control access into the surrounding areas.

From the top of the tower there are fine views of Dundrum village and bay looking east across the Irish Sea.

  7. They certainly built things to last in those days; those are some very solid walls. Must have been very imposing when complete.

  11. You walked all the way up? Steep, and no railings! But the view is worth it. I wonder why so many castles are round?

  17. They must have been quite exposed while building such a massive fortification. - Margy

  20. What a wonderful building, but I agree, that stairway does look scary. I would have to send my husband up to get some photos, while I'd stay down below looking for other photo opportunities.
    Thanks for the tour!
