More from the Mournes

We felt the need to go hiking in the Mournes again and set off on a brilliant, crisp morning.

Just before the seaside town of Newcastle, at the foot of the mountains, I stopped at this little picnic area and looked through the 'porthole' there for this shot of the northern slopes of the Mournes and Donard the highest peak in the middle.

We found ourselves on the Granite trail which takes you out above the treeline and affords super views over the bay and Newcastle below.

Over the stile and across the heather...

This view looks east across the Irish sea and we could just make out the Isle of Man.

Being able to enjoy this makes me thankful!

  5. As always, just lovely! Thought about your blog last night while working on our family history...I stumbled upon some genealogy that linked us to Eva MacMurrough of Leinster, Princess. Ahhh, we all hope we're descended from royalty! Made me smile to know that maybe a part of our family tree was seeing the brilliant scenery you share with all of us.
