Cloudland School, Vermont

I'm just home from a wonderful fall road trip in New England, so apologies for not being around to visit but I'm hoping to catch up today.

Cloudland Road,  Woodstock Vermont, has to be one of the most beautiful places we travelled.  These were taken last Saturday Oct. 14.  The weather was perfect, the skies were blue and here the foliage was lovely though just past peak in some places and in others not quite peak.  Apparently this fall  was one of the 'weird' foliage seasons.

This was the schoolhouse right on the hilltop and was in use until 1954. Now it's a private property.

  4. I have always wanted to go to Vermont and Maine. My son and his family did one year for their vacation. This is absolutely gorgeous!!! I want to walk down this path. Is it the path to the school? The school is in good shape, and so sweet! Looks like it had been just the red part. Then someone bought it, added the brick part, and is maybe living there. We have a very old little red schoolhouse here. There has been much protest about tearing it down, as it is falling apart and dangerous now. Why are most old schoolhouses red?

  6. ...Christine, the third weekend of August I was in Vermont a bit north and west of Woodstock. Several return trips are on my to do list. The fall color that you saw sure beats what we have had. Thanks for sharing and I hope to see you back again.

  10. I think the Pacific Northwest stole the fall foliage contest this year...possibly. That roadway is gorgeous!

  12. Beautiful foliage Christine. I used to live in Vermont back in the 70s and it's always awesome in the fall. Very happy that the storm wasn't so strong here but feel bad for those south of us.

  21. That was a small country school house but when you only need one room it did the job.

  23. Christine - peak, not peak - still glorious. My favorite picture is the first - the way the road winds to the right and we can't see what lies beyond - and it is empty! And the leaves have gathered on the left like rose petals scattered on a church aisle - lovely! Have a wonderful weekend!
