Window Shopping in the Village

Our nearest village is so pretty anytime of the year, but at Christmas it's fun to see the brightly lit shops gear up for the festive season.  Here are a few snaps of some pretty windows.

This is the Flower and Gift shop for all your floral requirements.

Beside it is the butcher's with turkey and ham...

The baker's with sweet treats and Christmas Cakes, plum puddings and mince pies...

The Post Office and gift shop

A good old fashioned toy shop

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse into village life.

Sharing a few recent photos from my morning walkabout when the sun came up and the sky was blue and the frost lingered on the hedges and fields.

This is a typical barn here in Northern Ireland, with an arched roof and corrugated tin sides.

The shadows of the fence and gate show up well.

I don't know if this older barn will survive.  As you can see, there is a newly built home going up behind it and it might well obstruct their view over the valley.

Moments on Monday

Taken on my way home from the school run a couple of weeks back.

I know I should have stepped out of the car to take this shot but as you can see it was a tad on the freezing side!

Further on I noticed the frosted plants and pulled over and got out of the car!

I was glad I did as I really enjoy looking at these shots of a few never- to -be-repeated frozen moments.

Hope you enjoy a few special moments this Monday!

Saturday's Critters

These are vicuna, close relatives of llamas and alpacas. We saw them at Belfast Zoo on our latest visit there.

No doubt they are warm in their woolly coats.

Curious but cautious and very cute!

Friday Five

I was in town last night for late night shopping and snapped a few photos on my phone of the Christmas tree in front of the Linen Museum.

The plate glass provided me with reflection shots.

This is the old and new parts of the museum with glass atrium and more tree reflections.

Below is the former market square which has been redeveloped.  This looks back up towards the linen Museum and the four large 'needles' with illuminated purple 'thread' are a reminder of the town's former link with the linen industry and Barbour Threads.

I also took a stroll along the river at the Civic Centre  for a reflection shot there too.

Thanks for all your comments.

More Frosty fences!

More frosty morning fences this week.  Its good to have these hard frosts to cleanse the air but don't they also provide so much beauty?

A macro of frost on the wire with the gossamer lines of a spider's web in the making.

looking back up the lane towards the sunrise; so thankful I could pause for a while an enjoy nature.

A message left on a security fence seems apt today!

Ressler Mill Pennsylvania

Isn't the stonework in this old mill fantastic?  We stopped for a quick visit to this the Ressler Mill and house in Lancaster County.

The yellow barn was to the right of the house and all were very well kept.
It was just the rainy skies which dampened our time there.

Misty Morn

Its that time of year when autumn morphs into winter through swirling, secretive mists.
These foggy days remind me of  old Sherlock Holmes films, where Baker Street was always cloaked in fog and Holmes would call to Watson, 'The game's afoot!' as they jumped into a hackney cab to solve the mystery!

Wonder what game is afoot this week? Have fun!

Gulls Galore!

I've made a few visits to the duck pond over the last week and was entertained by the gulls sliding about on the areas frozen over during the spell  of icy weather we've had.

On the next visit I found them all lined up on the fence and I think we could make up a new song, "Ten pretty sea gulls sitting on the fence!"

But if one (or more!) pretty seagull should decide to fly away...

There'd be only three pretty seagulls sitting on the fence!"

Sunset Skies

I was busy making dinner when my son called, "Mum, you need to see this sunset!"
(He knows me so well, that I wouldn't want to miss a chance to snap a photo of this!)

So I dashed upstairs to be able to catch the skies above the trees around the house.

The blend and mix of colours were spectacular!
(And BTW, the dinner wasn't burned!!)

Frosty Fences

Happy December! It really felt like Christmas with the frosts coating our world with glistening white crystals and this fence at an equestrian centre glittered in the early morning sunlight.

I din't mind breaking the rules to shoot into the sun for this silhouette of the fence and horse in the distance.

I had to stop and enjoy the leaves too! Makes me thankful we have frosts!

So pleased to see that Michelle has opened a new 'Thankful Thursday' link in party HERE

Hopefully linking with our new host for Good Fences - Gosia, thank you to her.

Love to hear from you!
