Good Fences at the Folk Park

Time to link up with The Run-a-Round Ranch for Good Fences and today I am sharing several of my favourites from the Folk museum

I came across these old iron gates just propped against a whitewashed wall. Very unique pattern.

Great gates and whitewashed domed top pillars in traditional Irish style.

This was my favourite farmhouse with its stonewall and then a bright red picket fence .

The fence here is a work of art and skill of the weavers.  It is a lattice work fence woven from the willow branches grown here.  You can see the wooden bench where the branches are straightened.

Thanks so much for your visit and hope to hear from you.

Tuesday Treasures

It seems appropriate to share some photos of old cameras from the museum.  The old cameras look like fine pieces of equipment!

The room, which you could only view from the doorway, was set up to replicate a photographer's portrait studio from yesteryear.

I would have enjoyed acting the part with my head under the cloth, ready to snap a picture with that old camera on the tripod.

Thanks for visiting and please see more Treasures at Tom's link up HERE

Have a great day!

Windows

This week I'm sharing photos taken last Wednesday on a visit to the Ulster Folk Museum, a wonderful recreation of days gone by, with old thatched cottages and farm dwellings, churches and schools and traditional crafts.

Here are several still life photos of the  tiny windows in the cottages - a look into the life of yesteryear.

Saturday Critters

Joining Eileen for Saturday Critters and also Camera Critters. These were taken with my phone so please excuse the overly bright light, it was midday and there was lots of white!

But I was just delighted to see these lambs on Wednesday past.

In another field, a set of triplets, just days old.

Would have loved to cuddle this little one!

Giant's Ring

Come for a walk with me along a wooded path to a land of long ago.

The path is shadowed and curved.

It leads to The Giant's Ring, a neolithic burial site of an ancient tribal leader.

The Giant's Ring.

A panorama to give a sense of the size of this ancient site.  In the middle is the burial chamber.

It feels as though we have gone back into the distant past as we see the stone monument.

Thanks for coming along with me.

Tuesday's Treasures

Welcome back to Springhill Plantation, the National Trust property we visited.  Sharing some more treasures from it.  This is a view of the back of the house and you can see the two side extensions built by the second heir of the place, Will Coyningham, who liked to entertain.

It was this framed document that really grabbed my attention.  It is a copy of the official Death Warrant to execute King Charles the First and was given to important families at the time.
Look closely and you can see the third signature is that of Oliver Cromwell,

A special treasure chest!

The gun room and the first blunderbuss I'd ever seen - the two guns above the table.

I don't think anyone could go to far on this old bike but I thought it was still a treasure!

Camouflaged Courtship

Its mating season here for frogs.

These two were so well camouflaged in the leaves and moss that I thought it was one giant frog.
Just snapped a quick shot and left!

Friday Five

It's been a lovely week and there have been several colourful sunsets over the fields from home

Linking this with Skywatch Friday

Some more photos from our visit to Springhill Plantation House and a reflection in the silver server for Weekend Reflections HERE  (I didn't know cameras were permitted so I just used my iPhone as you can see!) Couldn't get the light any better I'm afraid.

Below is part of the old servants quarters and brewery built as a Dutch barn

This is another old barn with a turret

Another view of the turret and sad to say the barn was inaccessible.

Good Fences

Happy St Patrick's Day!
Just some lovely green rolling Northern Irish countryside today to share for Good Fences.

A view taken yesterday towards the Mourne Mountains which were shrouded in clouds.

This is from the edge of Castlewellan Forest Park

A traditional stone wall but what an interesting pattern on the fence staypost!

Thanks for your visit
