The Dairy Farm

The dairy farm we visited was huge - there were over a thousand cows being milked around the clock.

These are Holsteins, their milk yield is high.

Waiting to go to the milking parlour

Enjoying supper!

On another part of the farm we saw the cows and calves. It was staggering to see the number of calves in their little pods.

The working farm and its barns

A few more Michigan barns which had the quilt squares on the gables.

Skies and Reflections

Port Austin

Evening draws in on our time in Michigan.

We were invited to visit a  dairy farm and the immaculately kept shiny milk tanker was the perfect reflective surface!

I'm back tomorrow with more photos of our farm visit.

Good Fences

On our drive up from Detroit, we stopped along the Lakeshore Road at one of the visitor viewpoints. The fence is necessary here as there is quite a steep drop down to the shores of Lake Huron.  But the views are wonderful!

The flat farmland of the 'Thumb' region of Michigan is fertile for crop growing so there is a noticeable absence of fences.

This recently updated farm had a nice new white fence and neat stone pillars.

Decorated for the 4th (sorry about the blur - I should have cleaned the lens, oops)

Thanks again to TexWisGirl for hosting Good Fences.

You can find lots more fences by clicking the link below to Run-a-Round Ranch.

Thanks for your visit!

Signs, Signs

Linking today with Signs, Signs HERE.  These were all taken at the Henry Ford Museum.

I loved the neon signs of the fifties!

By the lake

It was lovely to be able to relax by the shores of Lake Huron. The kids love to be in the water and the weather was perfect!

The evening was lovely for a stroll along Port Austin's pier.

Weekend photos

Happy Saturday! I'm sharing a few photos of critters I spotted around the village and linking to Eileen's Saturday's Critters HERE

The little sparrow above was so tame as it waited around the picnic tables for crumbs.

Moms duck came strolling by leading her brood to the pond!

But I really felt bad for the sheep in the 90 degree heat. Poor lamb!

We were staying with family in Huron County, Michigan, and close by is this barn painted on both ends with huge murals by Steve and Dorota Coy,  street artists from Detroit who set up the Hygienic Dress League for their art projects, exploring branding and corporatism in America.

This is the other gable end with their signature gas masks

Friday Photos

Just a few more photos taken at Greenfield Village, with working tin shop, glassworks and pottery above.

Below is a gorgeous little reproduction Cotswold cottage - I wanted to move in!

Chocolate box cute!

This is my hubby's favourite place - a bicycle shop and none other than Wilbur and Orville Wright's!

A covered bridge - something I love to find on vacation.
