November's Passage

The first day of November in Castle Gardens

Today all trees are bare and the walkways neatly swept.

I walked down to the monument erected in memory of Lisburn's benefactor Sir Richard Wallace

Ducks

Happy Saturday.

I'm linking with Eileen's Saturday Critters and sharing  some ducks on the pond, though it was chilly in the water and some ducks didn't seem too keen to go swimming.

The seagulls are more hardy!

Thursday's Good Fences

Welcome to another Thursday Good Fences post!

These photos were taken just last week when the weather was still fairly mild. How a day or two changes things as it has become very wintery here.  I was out for a walk in Lisburn. This is the Civic and Arts Centre built along the Lagan river and towpath.

Victorian Viaduct

Views of a Victorian Viaduct in Dromore Co. Down taken last week in the late afternoon, the light was fading fast but the stone work looks almost purplish in the setting sun.

The viaduct was constructed to carry the railroad over the river Lagan from Belfast to Dublin.

It stands 74ft tall.

They look peaceful but I didn't risk hanging about long to snap this couple in a field along the road from my house.

The limp looking strand of barbed wire didn't offer much security and from the look in the bull's eye,
he didn't want me any closer! So I took a quick shot and scarpered!

Sharing with Saturday Critters Thanks Eileen for hosting!

Happy Weekend!

Cathedral Reflection

In the town where my parents live, there is a quiet riverside walk I sometimes take.  This is the town's cathedral and made for a tranquil reflection in the gently flowing river.

Glad you could visit and hope to hear from you.

Away with the Fairies for Good Fences

A few weeks back we took the scenic drive around an area known as The Ring of Gullion near Newry, South Armagh. We stopped to walk around the Fairy Glen which is really for young children but we're all big kids at heart and enjoyed how its done.  This is the magical door or gateway into the Fairy Glen.

I really like the woven hazel branch archway - very Celtic!

Some cute wee fences around the fairy homes!

Then we made the drive around the mountain of Slieve Gullion for the spectacular views and were not disappointed.

Famous Emerald Isle green fields in a patchwork below.

Breathe in the invigorating fresh air! It was really quite windy so we didn't stay out too long!

The sheep pens on the hillside...

These two were escapees we came across further along!

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for visiting and please leave a comment to let me know you've been!

Glad to be linking with Good Fences and Skywatch Friday.

Many thanks to our hosts!

Have a great day!

Feeling Wooden - Saturday Critters

On our visit to Castlewellan forest Park we found some native wildlife.  Wooden carvings that is and larger than life but harmless as you can see!

I think this has to be my favourite, with the little fawn curled in close under a protective mother.

through the tree I spied a falcon, surveying the fields below

Hope you enjoyed my wooden critters!

Last of the Autumn Foliage- Weekend Reflections Castlewellan

Two weeks ago we went to Caslewellan Forest Park. The walk around the lake was very enjoyable in the mild sun and conditions made for great reflective photos on the lake of the final show of autumn colour.

Seeing Red for Good Fences!

It's Thursday Good Fences link up time at The Run-a-Round Ranch.

It's the bright vivid red paint that makes you look twice at this wee country cottage.  I go out past this homestead on my walks and always admire it for its quaint old Northern Irish appeal.

It's interesting to note the pillar tops are capped into a point which was typical of gate post and pillars many years ago.

I have some more photos of such gates to share in future posts.

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for your visit and comments.

Remember

Lest we forget...

This is The Poppy Man, the British Legion's statue of a soldier playing The Last Post. He is placed at the War Memorial in Lisburn each year at the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday.

Remembering all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace in our time and for those who continue to serve to this end!

THANK YOU

Long Face Hello

We went across the road to say 'Hello' to our neighbour's horse.  He's friendly enough and my daughter loves giving him handfuls of fresh grass which he gladly receives.

Good Fences

Old forsaken shepherd's stonehouse in the Ring of Gullion, County Armagh.
Lovely heather covered, crumbling stonewall and fence in the foreground. I've been playing with Snapseed app and used a lens blur filter.

Today at the Park

A perfect fall day at the park.  Taken today at Wallace Park in Lisburn, looking towards the old Victorian Bandstand which was used for public concerts.
